=========================================================================== SCO Security Bulletin 98.04 September 15, 1998 Security Vulnerability in ToolTalk --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I. Description A security vulnerability has been reported in ToolTalk (used by the CDE desktop in UnixWare 7), as described in CERT advisory CA-98.11. II. Impact The vulnerability could allow remote attackers to gain root access to systems with the CDE desktop installed. We recommend that the patch decribed below is installed on all Internet- connected UnixWare 7 systems which have the CDE desktop installed as soon as possible. III. Releases This problem exists only in SCO UnixWare 7 - other SCO operating systems are unaffected. IV. Solution SCO is providing an interim patch to address this issue in the form of a System Security Enhancement (SSE) package. SSE015 contains new versions of the three binaries which are affected. It is availlable for Internet download via anonymous ftp, and from the SCOFORUM on Compuserve.
